Pulp fiction

In a drama film there are more simple shots but that doesn’t make it less interesting because there are not a lot of fancy affects. The shots of the film gives actors and the story a wide-range of point of view and scene development. In the film Pulp Fiction we see a lot of two shots over the shoulder, medium close-up and reaction shots because it’s focused on character development. No digital special effects aside from the violent scenes in the film. The best built up and erratic scene in pulp fiction is when they went to retrieve the case with gold in an apartment with common thieves. Starts with a close up on the door lock and it being unlocked then into a medium wide shot of the two main characters, Vincent and Jules who are hitmen. In most of the shots they used lower angles to show their authority in the space and in this scene. Once they entered the apartment all of the people in the scene were all given reaction shots in order to draw out the tension rather than just going into a medium wide shot. Once they have entered then we are in a medium wide shot showing Jules position of power. Before he recites one of the most poetic lines in the film he asks one of the thieves for a piece of his burger they close-up on the sandwich then later on to Jules eating. This was an interesting take on taking authority because he’s biting into the sandwich but staring at the thief like prey. The techniques that Quentin Tarantino director uses in this scene is almost like a comic book with close-ups to the eye’s and using more intimate frames instead of wide shots. The lighting is more of a natural light but that’s due to time this is an older production film most of the lighting is basic but tints of warm colors are established in the film.
